What age players are appropriate for the NYBL league?

Players must be in 5^th-8^th grade, live in Needham or attend school in Needham.  All abilities are welcome and encouraged.  Players are divided by gender and grade, 5^th/6^th and 7^th/8^th.

 

What time of the year does the NYBL run?

The season runs from November 3rd to mid-March.  There are no games/practices during school vacation. 

 

Where are practices and games typically held?

Practices and game are held at the gyms at the St. Joseph School in Needham, along with Town of Needham gyms and new this year, The Rashi School gym. 

 

How many games does each team play?  What days of the week are games/practices?

Teams will play 15+ games throughout the season with practices interspersed among the games.  Practices/games are played every day of the week.

 

How often does each team have time in the gym per week?

Teams will have a practice or game 2-3 times a week ideally for an hour.  Sometimes games run a little longer.  Teams will be on the court usually 1x per week and 1x per weekend.

 

What costs beyond registration fees should be expected?

There are no extra costs.

 

Are jerseys provided or are they purchased separately?

T-shirts will be provided to each player.  Players will be required to wear their t-shirt to both practices and games.  Coaches will be given a t-shirt as well. 

 

How are teams divided?

Once registration is complete, we will hold Evaluation Days on October 4th/5th.  These days are not tryouts but more of a clinic for our coaches to see the abilities of each player.  It enables us to make the teams as equitable as possible.  If you are not able to make the Evaluation Days, your player will still be placed on a team.

 

What does my child need to bring to practice/games?

Balls will be provided for each player throughout the entire season, so players DO NOT need to bring a ball to practice.  At the end of the season, each player will be given a ball.  Please send your player with a water bottle for every practice/game.
